Dear Mr Rush,

We’re going to mess you about. Tough. You won’t be able to drive home. You won’t be able to get to work easily. For a fortnight you’ll have to climb over the neighbours’ garden or over a pile of mud just to get home. Tough.

Your house will become covered in fine mud which your children will walk all over your new lounge carpet. Tough.

From time to time, without any notice, we’ll switch your water off. Try to keep some in the kettle or in a bottle in the fridge, just in case.

When the water comes back on, it will be full of mud and taste foul. Don’t drink it. Wait a day or two for it to settle down.
