Work Experience Talk

When you come back from your work experience week, you will be asked to give a formal talk to the class about your time.

The focus on this talk should be 'careers'. Think of it like this: you are the only one in the class (probably) to have experienced one of the many work placements the Careers department organises. Maybe some of what you experienced would be of great interest to others in your group. Even things you didn't much like might sound really interesting to someone else!

During the week, think about what you could say in a 2 or 3 minute talk about your placement. Describe what you did, maybe with a couple of anecdotes - but no more than two or three, please! - and try to include some facts and background information about the sort of jobs and careers available in the work you experienced and undertook.

Try to make sure that at the end of your talk, those listening will have learned something significant about your work experience week and about the kind of work you took part in. Broaden their understanding of 'Careers'!

The talk will be assessed for your English Speaking and Listening coursework, and will contribute 7% to your overall mark - which may not sound much, but may make all the difference between a low pass and a high pass. Remember that. The assessment sheet itself will help you to prepare for the talk.

When you come back, we will begin the talks. Be prepared. You may be the first to speak!
