LTB4 Comparing Texts (Coursework) September to January

Objectives

  1. to respond to two literary texts
  2. to develop own interpretations, informed by other readers

    to relate part of the text to the whole

    to appreciate a range of contexts of texts (e.g. psychological, historical)

    to compare themes, characterisation, style and authors’ intentions in both texts

  3. to produce a detailed plan for approval

    draft and re-draft essay, taking account of all assessment objectives.

Read both novels.

Contribute to class discussion on the two works.

Do a presentation to the group on one or more aspects of one or both novels.

Complete preparatory essays on extracts from the novel.

Submit a 3000 word essay addressing the assessment objectives. Include a bibliography and word count.

Make use of recommended / provided resources (audio tapes, television programmes, articles and recommended websites).

Include a sketch or painting as part of their presentation on Cat's Eye.

Take advantage of opportunities to redraft coursework

Undertake wider reading which might include other novels by Margaret Atwood and poetry by both Atwood and Anne Michaels.

Make use of the works or ideas of other authors to inform their reading of the texts (e.g. Tollund Man, Seamus Heaney)

Refer to a wider range of critics and websites.

Incorporate knowledge from other subject areas (e.g. art, history, psychology)
