A new A-level course in Politics, and a 'double award' course in Health and Social Care started in September 2004.

Mr Copestake and Mr Croft are always happy to answer enquiries about the courses offered by the department.

All history teachers contribute to revision sessions for exam classes at lunchtimes and after school.

The department has its own ICT facilities, for individual research projects and coursework.

In 2004, there was a successful trip to Ypres and the battlefields of the First World War, and it is hoped there will be a second trip in 2005.

A quarter of the students in the sixth-form follow a course in AS or A2 history, and a large number of pupils opted for history or sociology at GCSE in the new options system.

The department achieved good 'value added' performance: most pupils achieve beyond expectations!

Whilst history prepares students for all higher education and management skills, a large numbers of St Peter's students go on to study history, sociology and related subjects at university.

It is particularly pleasing to see students returning from college to discuss their courses and studies.
