Year 7 visit to Cheltenham Literature Festival

On Friday 15th October 45 Year 7 students, 2 librarians and 2 teachers went to see Malorie Blackman at the Bacon Theatre as part of the Cheltenham Literature Festival. Malorie Blackman’s books include ‘Thief!’, ‘Hacker’ and ‘Pig-Heart Boy’, which was made into a successful television adaptation. She has also written for older readers, who may be familiar with “Noughts and Crosses’ and ‘Knife Edge’. Malorie Blackman read from some of her books and then was available for questions. Unfortunately as we were sitting at the back we did not manage to ask any. However we learnt some interesting things such as that it took Malorie 82 rejections before her first book was published. Malorie has won several prestigious book awards and we discovered that she used the money from one for a wonderful family holiday in the West Indies.
