Paul Farley
Paul Farley visited the school on
March 10th and 11th. On March 10th, he presented prizes for the
poetry competition and then read his poems in the Drama Theatre. Afterwards
he stayed to talk to everyone and to sign copies of his books.
On March 11th he led two creative writing workshops with pupils: in the morning,
during periods 1 and 2, he worked with a group of approximately twenty key stage
4 students and in the afternoon, during periods 4 and 5, with a group of sixth-formers.
Some very interesting poems were written as a result although Paul emphasised
that they might not be 'finished'. He often writes a poem then leaves it for
a while so he can rewrite it a later date if necessary. The day ended with Paul
reading a poem (Dead Fish from his book 'The Ice Age') over the tannoy ( a new
experience for him, and for the school!). We really enjoyed the visit and hope
to meet Paul again.
