For their Year 13 coursework students progress onto moving image work, where they have the choice of two options, both again worth 40%of the grade at A2. The first option, Music video, requires students to produce a music promotional video for a song and artist of their choice, using footage they have filmed themselves. The second option, Film Trailer, allows students to produce a film trailer for a new film of their own invention. For A2 coursework, students can work individually or as a pair. The production must be fully researched, with investigation into similar texts and genres, and their forms and conventions. The work must also be planned thoroughly, with storyboards showing camera angles and types of shots.
Coursework in Year 13 commences in September, and the hand in date is early February. In additon to the practical element, students must also complete a 3000 word 'Critical Evaluation', which should detail the production from start to finish. In May, the Media Studies department runs an 'Oscars' evening where the work of the Year group is shown and replica Oscars given out for different categories.
