Charities

The Charity work of St Peter’s High school is lead by a member of the RE team and this has ensured a maximum impact across the school on a variety of levels over the years. The specific raising of funds is only a part of the work done as we have tried to educate the young people and staff into the importance of giving and the value of ‘justice’ in our world. The actual statistics are quite humbling as they show the real generosity of so many individuals and groups who have given their time, energy and money to support so many different causes. The appendix shows the records and the annual charity reports since the millennium. They also show the many different charities we have supported.

Since September 2000 the school has raised over £100 000 which is an exceptional achievement and clear witness to the Gospel. In the academic year 04/05 nearly £22000 was raised within the school.

Over the last twelve years alone we have raised £64000 for CAFOD. This has been done through a carefully co-ordinated campaign between the KS3 & 4 units of learning, the Advent & Lenten services, soup lunches, 24hr. fasts and a whole range of sponsored events chosen by pupils.

Students in the Lourdes group regularly support main school activities and help to raise significant money for the many other charities which the school supports. Tutor groups throughout the school (11-16) have a monthly collection for Cafod & (16-19) HCPT and tutors are encouraged to take a lead to help the pupils to take responsibility and the amounts raised are very accurately recorded (PT)

The Charities group meet every Friday after school to plan and promote the various activities supported by the school. The School Catering manager has been very pro-active in promoting ‘Fair-trade food’ & Healthy eating. The school tuck-shop is an outstanding example with members of the Lourdes group employed to run it with all proceeds raised for the Charities account.
