Key Stage Four Assessment

The DIP 05/06 has highlighted the profile of assessment for the Units of learning in KS3&4. The AFL (See above) strategies which include self & Peer assessment are being incorporated into assessment practice at KS4 (Dept. Minutes Nov. 05) As with KS3, a more systematic way of monitoring pupil progress between key exam dates in KS4 is being developed. The present data is accurately recorded for the whole department which allows for closer analysis across all groups (Dept SEF file.) The dept. has also completed the Pupil Achievement Tracker (PAT) scores for year 10 as part of a whole school initiative to more accurately monitor progress of pupils based on national indicators taken from their KS3 performance. There is the opportunity for the teacher to use their own knowledge of the pupils to make an appropriate adjustment if necessary. (Nov 05)

With the development of standard end-of –unit tests, a more accurate picture can be formed against the PAT Targets which will allow for a more systematic way of following pupil progress across the year groups.

GCSE performance 2004/2005:

216 students were entered.

69% A*-C were achieved by those who took the Full course

(noting as below that that the number of students entered for the Full course was 42% higher than last year, a figure with which we were exceptionally pleased)

Including the short course entries this figure becomes 54% A*-C.

The Full course students had performed just as well as in previous years even though there were many more of them. However the short course results were disappointing with only 30% A*-C. This option has now been revised as it was felt that a number of ‘disaffected’ students opted for it perceiving it to be an easier course and did not put in the effort required particularly during the revision period. Finally the ‘Contextual Value Added’ (CVA) of the 2004/05 New Panda for RE at St Peter’s is encouragingly high.
