Key Stage Four Curriculum

The Curriculum:

Key Stage Four

All pupils in KS4 study GCSE RE.

From Sept.05 the timetable allocation has increased to 10% in line with the Bishops’ requirement. The course details are as follows:

AQA Syllabus A:

Paper 1B ‘Christianity; Prayer & Worship within the Roman Catholic Tradition’

Paper 2A ‘Behaviour, attitudes & lifestyles’

Each paper has one piece of coursework. The first is completed in year 10. (See parents’ curriculum booklet KS4)

Traditionally GCSE was not offered to pupils at St Peter’s. With the additional expertise within the Department the Governors finally agreed to make it an option. (1996) This remained the case until 2005 with a very successful ‘General RE’ course running parallel to it. The initial exam results varied before settling down to a consistent level above national and school averages. (68% A*-C)

Following the 14-19 curriculum review, RE in St Peter’s began to move towards becoming a ‘Core’ subject alongside English, Maths & Science. In the academic year 2004/05 and the time allocation increased to 10% for year 10 pupils. In preparation for this, the year 11 group 04/05 were all entered for an examination in RE with a ‘short course’ option available whilst remaining on an 8% time allocation. From September 2005 all KS4 pupils are now taught RE with the required 10% allocation. The agreed target for the whole year group is 60% for 2006.
