Key Stage Five Theology
Since 1990 the department has taught ‘A’ Level Theology using the OCR exam board. Since the curriculum 2000 changes the following options have been taken for A/S & A/2:
A/S: Introduction to ‘Ethics’
New Testament: Section ‘B’ The Gospels
A/2: Ethics (Extended essay)
The Gospels; Sec. B: The Kingdom of God in the person & teaching of Jesus.
Very pleasing performances for both A2 and AS were recorded.
A/2 performance for 2004/2005 students was as follows:
3 candidates were entered. 100% A-C achieved :- Grade B-1, Grade C-2
A/S performance for 2004-2005 students was as follows:
7 candidates were entered. 86% A-C achieved :- Grade A-1, Grade B-3, Grade C-1, Grade D-1.
The above course is now taught by four specialist teachers and is a very popular option. The present year 12 A/S group has fourteen students which is a very encouraging sign. The past successes of all the ‘Theology’ students is recorded on the “Theology Tree” poster outside RE3. The 100% pass-rate has remained since 1990. Further details of the course content can be seen in the ‘A’ Level Theology & Ethics’ leaflet.
Note on Assessment:
Over the last few years we have actively been moving the ‘A’ level students towards more independent learning. In line with the 05/06 DIP we have introduced a lot more ‘peer’ & ‘self’ assessment. The following page shows the comments from the present A/S group about the usefulness of this process for them.
