Science flourishes at St Peter's with a broad range of courses at GCSE and A-level and with an imaginatively rich approach to teaching and learning.

The science team consists of 15 teaching staff and a team of technicians who are fully committed to working as a team to ensure that our pupils receive a stimulating and rewarding Science education. We offer a range of courses with the
aim of developing every student to his or her full potential.

Examination results

Key Stage 3 results have been consistently above the national average: 2008 Level 6+ 54%, Level 5+ 86%. With the demise of NC tests at the end of KS3 and the introduction of a new national program of study we are building a new and exciting scheme of work for students starting in Year 7.

At Key Stage 4 in 2009 we achieved 83% A*-C grades for core GCSE and 70% of students gained two good science GCSE grades. This contributed to the school's overall figures for 2009 of 68% of students gaining 5+ A*-C including Maths and English.

KS5 subjects remain bouyant with the department offering Biology (AQA), Chemistry (OCR) and Physics (Edexcel) at AS and A2. 2008 saw the introduction of Human Biology which has proved to be very popular.

Resources

The science department accommodation comprises ten laboratories and one dedicated classroom. We have one large and two smaller Preparation areas with a team of hardworking, skilled technicians. All teaching rooms possess electronic interactive white boards and data projectors. We have a wide range of data logging facilities and software applications. Each teacher within the department has a laptop computer.

Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
